Remote Shows “Project Offline” or other Connection Issues with Mesh Wi-Fi Network (Eero, TP-Link)
Symptom
A Cinema Remote or Home Remote seems to lose its connection to a mesh topology WiFi network, such as Eero or TP-Link.
The remote intermittently displays a “Project Offline” message.
The Android Wi-Fi screen sometimes shows a connection error stating that the network has no Internet connection when no other devices are having issues reaching Internet services.
Quick Steps
Disable the default Use Randomized MAC (default) setting for each SSID that the remote uses.
Update: January 13, 2026 - If the Use Randomized MAC Address option is not available on your remote, then your remote is running the 2026 system update (or later) which has removed this option (and issue) altogether.
- Pull down from the top edge of the remote’s touch screen to reveal the Android Quick Access tray.
- Tap the Internet Wi-Fi icon.
- Tap the SSID name that the remote is connected to.
- Tap Privacy.
- Select the Use Device MAC option.
You may need to disable and re-enable Wi-Fi on the remote to have this setting take effect.
Background
In Android, randomized MAC addresses are a privacy feature that changes the device's MAC address periodically when connecting to different Wi-Fi networks. This makes it harder for network operators or third parties to track devices across different networks based on their unique MAC address. Android 10 and later versions enable this feature by default.
In a home environment, this privacy setting is not needed and can even interfere with connectivity on certain networks, such as Eero. AVA does not currently (May 2025) disable this feature, as it is an Android default.
