Apple TV: AVA Remote Loses Control of Apple TV

Changes to Apple TV AirPlay settings can prevent AVA from controlling the device and may also prevent the Apple TV from being re-added or paired to the AVA Remote.

Symptom

The Apple TV was previously working correctly, but the AVA Remote has lost control of the device.

Attempts to re-add or repair the Apple TV may fail.

Quick Steps

On the Apple TV:

1. Navigate to Settings.
2. Select AirPlay and HomeKit (or AirPlay and Apple Home, depending on tvOS version).
3. Select Allow Access.
4. Set Allow Access to Same Network.

If Allow Access is set to Only People Sharing This Home, AVA will not be able to control the Apple TV or successfully pair with it.

After changing the setting to Same Network, test control from the AVA Remote again.
