Resetting a Remote Control
Outcome
AVA remote controls are Android devices. They store various types of personal or private information, including a Google account, various app logins, a Wi-Fi password, and an AVA OS project.
Whether you are repurposing a device or doing a return, it is important to reset some or all of this information to protect the privacy and security of your client and your company.
Types of Reset
Each type of reset listed below is listed from least to most comprehensive.
Change Project
You can quickly switch a remote between projects, moving to a different Nano Brain, or to/from a local (”remote only”) project. This leaves the existing project intact while connecting the remote to a different project.
- On a remote running AVA OS, go to Settings.
- Tap System > Change Project.
- Choose the project to connect to, or Set up a New AVA Nano Brain.
Reset AVA OS
Resetting AVA OS clears a remote’s local AVA OS project, or causes it to leave a project hosted on an AVA Nano Brain (without affecting the project running on that Brain).
Resetting AVA OS on a remote leaves the following data intact on the remote:
- Google account(s) and any passwords stored on those accounts
- Wi-Fi SSID(s) and password(s)
- Apps installed on the remote
- App logins to any online services (such as Spotify)

- Swipe down from the top edge of the touchscreen to reveal Android’s quick access menu.
- In the quick access tray, tap the Internet icon.
- In the Internet menu, tap the gear icon ⚙️ next to the SSID.

- Swipe down a second time to expand the menu.
- Tap the gear icon ⚙️ at bottom left.
- In the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Passwords & Accounts.
- Under Accounts for Owner, Tap the email address for the Google account used on the device.
- Tap Remove Account and finish the confirmations.
- Remove all Google Accounts (if you added more than one).
Factory Reset
⚠️ This process removes all current settings and user data from the remote control. It is not necessary for creating a new AVA OS project and should be used very rarely. ⚠️
To perform a factory reset on a Cinema Remote do the following steps:
-
🛑 Remove all Google accounts from the remote before doing a Factory Reset.
Android’s theft prevention will prevent the remote from being used after the reset. This will invalidate a sales return.
-
Swipe down from the top edge of the touchscreen to reveal Android’s quick access menu.
-
Swipe down a second time to expand the menu.
-
Tap the gear icon ⚙️ at bottom left.
-
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings menu and tap System.
-
Scroll to the bottom of the System menu and tap Reset Options.
-
Tap Erase All Data (Factory Reset) and then confirm.
Steps are similar for Home Remote, but not exact.
