  • AVA OS 2.2.0 Release Notes

    Hey, AVA installers!

AVA OS 2.2.0 is here! It’s all about making installs faster and easier to troubleshoot day to day—especially when discovering Nano Brains on the network, switching between projects, and updating. You’ll also find meaningful upgrades to webhooks, a better two-way volume experience, new IP drivers and a bunch of driver improvements (including Samsung Frame and Sony AVR).

    Let’s dig in!

    Highlights

    • Much faster “Change Project”: Jump between projects fast, with less waiting and no app restarts. This is especially practical for installers who configure systems using the AVA app on MacOS or Windows going from customer to customer.
    • New IP Drivers: The frequently-requested Zidoo streamers are now supported in AVA OS and same for R_volution.
    • Webhooks upgrades: Webhooks now support PUT and custom HTTP headers. We also added a guardrail confirmation when deleting a webhook step from a Flow.
    • Better volume UX: New global volume pop-up for two-way volume devices. There is also an option to enable the side-button for volume control.
    • Firmware update experience improvements: Clearer update progress feedback and reliability improvements to help updates feel faster, safer and more transparent. (You will see it later this month when AVA releases the new Nano Brain Firmware.)

    AVA OS “Snow Moon” 2.1.0

    Hey, AVA installers!

With AVA OS 2.1.0 “Snow Moon,” automation takes a big step forward. This release introduces event-driven Flows, Sonos pass-through volume with IP AVRs, new IP drivers, and tighter system-level controls—plus a long list of UX and driver improvements that make daily installs smoother and more powerful.

    Let’s dig in!

    Highlights

    • Pass-through Volume for Sonos Port makes a Sonos Port and AVR work together like magic. The AVR turns on and switches to the Port’s input automatically, and the Dynamic Keypad has volume right where you expect it. >> read more
    • Sonos Dynamic Groups automatically groups and ungroups Sonos speakers on the fly. >> read more
    • System-level Lock for Installer Settings protects the setup across every interface in the project — every remote and even companion apps. >> read more
    • Use a Custom UI Button to Trigger Flows because a button can now send a whole series of commands—such as Webhooks or lighting commands—from a Custom UI button. >> read more
    • Sensors for Flows let you start a Flow based on an event, such as music starts playing, or a device turns on. >> read more
    • Cinema Remote Press-and-Hold enhanced for faster volume ramping and faster scrubbing operations like fast forward and rewind.

    New IP Drivers

    • Audio Control Bijou AVR - Full-featured IP driver for all Bijou series AVRs
    • JBL Synthesis AVR - IP driver with 2-way volume, full control including all audio formats
    • Magnetar UHD BD Players - Full featured IP driver for all Magnetar players
    • Meridian 218 - IP driver for the hi-res audio zone controller
    • Screen Research Projection Screens — IP driver for drop-down screens, 2-way masking, and 4-way masking screens. Ideal in conjunction with Kaleidescape format sensors.

    IP Driver Enhancements

    • Discrete Volume for AV Receivers - The IP drivers for several AVR brands now have commands for setting an exact volume level in a Flow. Slider volume control for these AVRs is now on the Home Remote and Companion app, and there is even a volume slider for use in Custom UIs. Current list of currently supported brands: Anthem, Audio Control, Denon, Integra, JBL Synthesis, Marantz, NAD, Pioneer, Storm Audio, Onkyo, Trinnov, Yamaha.
    • Troubleshooting Info added to Devices - IP drivers added since AVA OS 2.1 show the IP address that the driver is using to connect to the actual device. You can also see whether the address was discovered (methods: mDNS, SSDP, etc.) or was manually entered.

    • NVIDIA Shield - Enter and Back command updated to work for apps that use alternate form of these commands, such as Kodi. (Thanks for the report, Prithpal!)
    • Apple TV IP Driver - Improved power state handling.
    • Sony Bravia IP Driver - Improved driver instructions.
    • Sony Projector IP Driver - Added the “Aspect Ratio Scaling” command.
    • Tascam BD IP Driver - implemented Open/Clos command
    • Yamaha AVR IP Driver - Added ‘DTS: Neural X’ command.
    • Sony Bravia IP TV Driver - Added a YouTube TV command (for you, Bailey!)

    New Features & UX Improvements

    • New Icons - Added hundreds of new AVA OS Icons for Flows and for the Custom UI.
    • Shorter Increments in Delays - You can now make Delays as short as 100ms.
    • Sonos current track display - Added more meta data for Sonos radio stations.
    • Improved Dynamic Keypad behavior with multiple active Flows - If a room has more than one Flow active, turning off a Flow makes the Dynamic Keypad automatically switch to the next active Flow.
    • Room sorting - You can now change the order of Rooms in a project. Go to Settings > Rooms and then drag and drop. Enjoy the new full-color icons for Rooms, too!
    • Service Tools - new diagnostics information page from either AVA Cinema Remote or Home Remote tells you whether the site can reach AVA’s cloud services, and lets you see every Nano Brain’s vitals: project name, software versions, type of network connection, and more. Go to Settings > System > Service Tools.
    • You can now connect to a Nano Brain by entering its IP address when automated discovery does not work.
    • When your AVA Pro login fails during project create process, you get detailed feedback on what went wrong.
    • When adding Devices:
      • Search results show whether each driver uses IP or IR.
      • You can select a device from search results and then step back without losing what you were searching for.
    • Webhooks editing has been made much easier.
    • The AVA Companion App now starts much much faster when already connected to a Project.
    • The AVA Companion App now shows and handles Satellite Brains. You can now configure devices controlled by Satellite Brains directly from the AVA Companion App.
    • Nano Brain setup now continues right after the Wi-Fi connection succeeds, no longer requiring you to select the Nano Brain from the list again.
    • Audio Mode now remains active in the AVA companion app for users of AVA Speakers and AVA Streaming System.
    • Updated numerous screens to make them look more modern and run much faster. Key examples are Room sorting page, the Edit Slides page, the Rename Device page, and many more.

    Pass-through Volume for Sonos Port

This is huge! You can now make a Sonos Port work seamlessly with any IP-controlled AVR.

When a Sonos Port starts playing, AVA OS can automatically turn on an AV Receiver, switch to the right input, and then control its volume.

By configuring the Sonos Port to use Pass Through volume (see: Line Out), AVA OS makes volume control possible with any AV Receiver that has an IP driver with discrete volume control. This includes:

    • AVR volume from the Sonos app, even if the AVR does not have native Sonos pass through volume support.
    • Volume control from any AVA OS interface: 3rd-party touch screens, the AVA companion app, and Home Remote.
    • Volume from Dynamic Keypad on Cinema Remote

Important Use this feature with projects hosted on an AVA Nano Brain. Remote-only projects run on a battery-powered device that can miss events while in standby.

    Sonos Dynamic Groups

The Sonos IP driver now automatically groups and ungroups Sonos speakers.

    • When Play Content step in a Flow lists more than one Speaker, AVA OS groups those speakers so that you see them even in the Sonos app.
    • Speakers grouped in the Sonos app show in AVA OS.
    • Send content to single speaker that is currently in a group, and AVA OS removes the speaker from its current group. (Works with multiple speakers at once, too!)
    • Send a command (such as Pause) to a single speaker, and AVA OS ungroups that single speaker from the current group before pausing it.

Installer Settings Now Uses System-level Lock / Unlock

When you lock Installer Settings, it now locks Installer Settings for the whole AVA OS System, instead of just on that one device.

Even if you add another Cinema Remote, Home Remote, or an instance of the AVA Companion App, Installer Settings remain locked.

Use either a PIN or a valid AVA Pro account to lock and unlock the Installer Settings. And your AVA Pro account works when a PIN gets forgotten or is not known.

    Migration for Existing Systems

    • For projects running on a Nano Brain, if the Installer Settings are locked on any AVA remote control connected to the project, the current PIN moves from the single device to whole project.
    • This prevents the AVA Companion App from being used as a way to get around the PIN set on a single remote control.

Sensors: Trigger a Flow Based on Event

Sensors allow you to monitor a device for certain events and run a Flow when they happen.

Example: When Mute becomes active on an AVR, you can trigger the Lutron lighting scene that brings up the footlights in the home theater.

AVA OS 2.1 expands on sensors as first introduced with AVA OS 2.0, providing increasingly sophisticated automation from AVA OS.

Sensors work best with a Nano Brain. Remote-only projects run from a device that goes to sleep to conserve its battery.

Here are some of the available sensors at the time of this release:

    • Anthem AVR - Volume, Mute
    • Anthem MDX-8 - Volume, Mute
    • Audiocontrol Bijou - Volume, Mute
    • Denon - Volume, Mute
    • Kaleidescape - Aspect Ratio, Menu
    • Integra - Volume, Mute
    • JBL Synthesis - Volume, Mute
    • Marantz AVR - Volume, Mute
    • Meridian AVR - Volume, Mute
    • NAD - Volume, Mute
    • Pioneer - Volume, Mute
    • Onkyo - Volume, Mute
    • Sonos - Idle, Paused, Playing, Transitioning, Volume
    • Storm Audio - Volume, Mute
    • Trinnov - Volume, Mute
    • Yamaha - Volume, Mute

Trigger Flows from a Custom UI Button

You can use a Custom UI button to run a stateless Flow. This allows you to make buttons that run a single Webhook step, or have a Flow send a series of commands to multiple devices in a home. The button even has a progress indicator for Flows that include Delay steps.

Example: if your client wants a to close all Lutron shades while watching Kaleidescape, you can add a Flow button to the Custom UI for Kaleidescape.

    Bug Fixes

    • Fixed: Lutron Switch Naming - The name that you manually assign to a Lutron switch in the Custom UI now gets applied and shown as expected.
    • Fixed: TV Favorites - fixed an issue where icons did not always display properly
    • Fixed: Sonos stability - several stability improvements
    • Fixed: Sonos as Volume Control Device in a Flow - You can now set a Sonos device (such as an Arc or Arc Ultra) in the volume control Step in a Flow.
    • Fixed: Device rename caused duplicated flows to rename - duplicated Flows keep their assigned name when their source device gets renamed.
    • Fixed: AVA Companion App now shows in the recent apps of any Android device.
    • Fixed: Nano Brain Wi-Fi setup supports more special characters in SSID and password.
    • Fixed: bug which caused the controlpad slide for DVD/Blu-ray players to be created incorrectly.
    • Fixed: A bug that caused the AVA Companion App to set the Android system wallpaper on specific Android devices where this was not desired.
    • Fixed: bug on AVA Home Remote which sometimes caused an inaccurate “Project Offline” message.

  • AVA OS Delta.png

AVA OS Delta 1.58.0 is live—and it’s packed with updates.

This release brings 9 new IP drivers—including support for 3 new matrix switcher brands—plus noticeable performance gains, UX refinements, and the most extensive set of behind-the-scenes updates we’ve ever rolled out.

Setup just got faster and simpler.

    Let’s dive in!

    New IP Drivers

    • madVR IP driver - Frequently requested by the high-end Cinema builders among you, this new driver controls madVR devices including switching profiles.
    • Simplified MFG HDMI Matrix IP Driver - Multiview support, ToughLink, support for matrices up to 16x16 zones.
    • KeyDigital HDMI Matrix IP Driver - This matrix driver features all the switching options up to 8x8 zones and also covers the Multiview functionality.
    • AudioControl Audio Matrix IP Driver - Fully featured audio matrix drivers for both the Director & CM Series.
    • TASCAM BD IP Driver - IP control for the popular, professional Ultra HD BD player.
    • JVC LX-NZ Projector IP Driver (for DLP models) - Now AVA OS also supports the DLP models via IP control.
    • New Android TV drivers for Midco TiVo Evo Force-1 (USA), EON (Greece), Quickline (Switzerland), and Cosmote (Greece) - While these drivers are country-specific, there is also a new version of generic Android TV IP driver with features such as TV channel support and channel favorites, more app launch commands, and more. This is compatible with many of today’s Android based TV streaming boxes, worldwide.

    IP Driver Enhancements

    • Trinnov: Under certain conditions commands could get lost when driver needed to reconnect, this is now fixed.
    • Anthem: You can add the device by setting the IP manually instead of using the automated discovery, and we fixed a bug in the Add Device process.
    • Barco: Added Smart Power handling, the driver now recognises the power states and handles them correctly automatically. When the projector is in Ready Mode, it now sends the the corresponding power command and gives a much faster power on experience.
    • StormAudio: Added full support for zones 3, 4 and 5. Fixed the Preset Commands.
    • Pioneer / Integra / Onkyo AVRs: Added additional HDMI input commands (HDMI 5/ HDMI6 / HDMI7).
    • Samsung TV: Added Exit command in addition to the already present Back command based on a dealer request.
    • Android TV: Added over 50 commands to launch apps directly from AVA OS with a single tap.
    • Kaleidescape: Added Power Off Standby, an alternative power off command you can use to put the Kaleidescape into standby instead of shutting it down completely.
    • Apple TV: Minor adjustment to the command-sending process to address rare issues reported by customers.
    • Lutron: Added support for Lutron Keypads of the type “Single Action” (SingleActionProgrammingModels). Important: Keypads wont appear in the UI automatically. Buttons need to be added using a Custom UI.

    New Features & UX Improvements

    • Device Search: The search function when adding new devices to AVA OS is much much faster, and results for devices and exact models are much more reliable.
    • Custom UI: Added a search function for device commands when adding them to the Custom UI.
    • Webhooks: Added the option to select either HTTP GET or HTTP POST.
    • Smarter Discovery: This is not only used when adding devices to AVA OS, it also recognizes and handles any IP changes in the network which are relevant to AVA OS. mDNS discovery is completely reworked and now stops when not needed, resulting in better performance and power saving.
    • AVA OS Home Screen: Android’s Back gesture is now disabled on the home screen of Home Remote and Cinema Remote. Flow icon spacing on the home screen is also improved.
    • Always-On Devices: Improved the handling of devices that are always considered to be On by AVA OS, making sure they are correctly handled during the automated wiring, and that they do not interfere with Smart Delays.
    • Better device naming for manual IP devices: The proposed name for an added device is now based on the driver name.
    • Easier manual MAC address entry: MAC address input now automatically capitalized characters and pre-fills colons.

    Bug Fixes

    • Fixed: An ugly bug that has led to false “Project Offline” messages for some customers. (We heard you, Varuzhan!)
    • Fixed: Clock Widget Setting (24h/12h) not being saved permanently when using the AVA Home Remote without AVA OS. (It’s fixed, Rick!)
    • Fixed: Automatic handling of IP address changes for Sony TV Simple Protocol IP Drivers
    • Fixed: Wrong Marantz IP Driver command, replaced ‘QUICK SELECT’ command with ‘SMART SELECT’. (Milton, that’s for you!)
    • Fixed: A bug which caused “Reset Wiring” to not always work. (Thanks for the report, Ted!)
    • Fixed: Bug which sometimes caused the Dynamic Keypad to forget its configuration randomly (grey animation without any buttons).

     Update 1.58.1

    June 26, 2025

    • Fixed: Device discovery using port scan broken on anything but 10.x.x.x networks. This regression is now resolved. Affected drivers included: PJLink projectors (Epson and others), AVPro Edge, Key Digital, madVR, Anthem MDX, Barco Residential, JVC LX, Kaleidescape, Simplified MFG, Sonance DSP.

  • Double the Battery, No False Clicks, Stability Improvement

I’m pretty sure you will love this massive update to Dynamic Keypad!

After numerous hours of testing, improving step by step, and analyzing possibilities within code deep in the core application of Dynamic Keypad, I’m very pleased with what our engineering teams have achieved.

    Double the Battery?

The new Dynamic Keypad software gets you an amazing 2x to the battery life from Cinema Remotes in standby! Seriously. Excellence in engineering is often not about adding glossy new features, but rather about optimizing what already exists.

    RX2 Double Battery.png

The team of testers reported back things like:

”The Dynamic Keypad update is freaking insane. I have the remote off the dock for 3 days now and I’m still on 42%!”

”OMG - this is exactly what I was hoping to get. The battery life is amazing. Thanks Patrick, Fabrice, Gyuri, Rudi, Istvan, Miro and whoever else made this happen! Amazing!!”

I’m one of the testers myself and I can confirm I feel the same. Big shout-out to the engineering team that “suffered” through these layer by layer improvements over several months and also big thank you to the BETA team that helped with this. ❤️

    No More False Clicks!

Prior to this update, AVA had received reports from some of our users that they were experiencing clicks on the “menu” button when they intended to use “cursor down” buttons. Since UX is among AVA’s most important core competencies and passions, we dove in deep to understand this issue. We ran tests with various users—some who never saw the issue, and others that reported that it happened fairly often. What we learned was fascinating regarding human ergonomics: those who experienced the issue typically held the remote very differently, using more of a sideways grip. I’m sharing this here as we are all about transparency and sharing interesting tech background.

    Click DYNKE.gif

So, we started to explore solutions that would fit both types of users. The improvement that did the trick, was increasing the hit target area (touch area) for the area around the three-dimensional glass “donut”. From there we pretty quickly found the right offset and modifications we needed to implement so “false clicks” were no longer an issue. In fact, both types of users reported back that it is working perfectly for them. So if you were among the ones seeing this issue, this update is for you!

Another quality of life update. Nothing shiny new, just a more solid version of what you already had.

     Update 1.3.3

    July 21, 2025

    • Fixed: With the launch of 1.3.2, we introduced a regression that affected the touch area on the right side and top of the Dynamic Keypad. This could have led to missed clicks, especially on the right side. Version 1.3.3 was released to fix exactly that issue.

    Stability Improvement

We have received reports that the dynamic keypad sometimes did not behave properly and showed an “upside down” screen, especially when using the Cinema Remote with Josh.ai. While we have seen this issue very rarely in the AVA OS world, we were very motivated to resolve it. Some of Josh’s amazing engineers teamed up with counterparts at AVA in a very productive collaboration. Thanks to these efforts, we got to several stability improvements and also found the actual root cause (which was on the Dynamic Keypad side). All this is included in this current update. Weeks of engineering for better quality.

If you were a Josh user affected by this issue, thank you for bearing with us as we worked to find the cause and deliver this solution. We are super happy to deliver it at last! ❤️

We listen to our community. The best place to report issues is via support@ava.com – you will get a response from a real human that actually cares!

Also, if you have ideas of what could make you more successful with Cinema Remote or AVA OS – please participate in the Idea Voting in the AVA Pro Portal.

Thanks for being part of AVA and enjoy looooooooooooooong battery life,

    Kaboooom!

Yes, you’re seeing this correctly: Your next big AVA OS release is here! Some weeks back we launched AVA OS Blaze (1.56) with our already famously fast Apple TV IP driver. Our developers have been on a hot streak, and we are already set with the next full-packed release. Say hello to HyperBlaze!

As always, the features in “HyperBlaze” were driven by your requests. We take your ideas on our Idea Voting page very seriously. They help us prioritize the features that matter to your business.

Here are the highlights of todays 1.57.0 “HyperBlaze” release for you! 🚀

    Highlights

    • SONY AVR IP driver - This driver brings IP control for all current Sony AV Receivers, using Sony’s latest protocol. The driver covers zones 1-4, supports ToughLink, and brings you all the usual AVR features. Important: older SONY AVRs use different protocols, so this driver cannot control them. (There are IR drivers for these older models.)
    • AVPro Edge Video Matrix IP driver - This is a general driver for the amazing AVPro Edge matrices. It handles up to 8 by 8 devices. It’s (hyper-)fast and features ToughLink. We had true joy developing that driver. Switching is really fast!
    • Updated Lutron IP driver (public beta) - This beta update brings additional features and bugfixes. The integration supports Lutron Homeworks and RadioRA3 for all kinds of lights, shades, and scenes. Happy testing! Keep in mind - it’s a public beta for dealers only. Do not use in client systems until the official release.
    • StormAudio AVR IP driver - a fast, full-fledged IP driver for StormAudio’s amazing sound processors. The driver covers Zones 1-2, features ToughLink, and is compatible with all StormAudio processors and receivers.
    • Yamaha AVR IP driver - IP control for all current Yamaha AVRs. The driver covers zones 1-4, supports ToughLink, and brings you all the usual features.
    • Barco Residential projector IP drivers - Very happy to announce official support for Barco Residential projectors. This driver covers both, the 1-chip and the 3-chip models. With AVA OS now having even broader coverage of high-end home theater gear, you can go as high-end as you want with your theater designs—AVA OS will have you IP-covered.”

Other features and important quality improvements (in random order):

    • Introducing alternative Power OFF commands (very useful for devices such as Samsung “The Frame” TVs to put a The Frame into Art Mode but still keep the power state tracking intact).
    • New automatically-generated, beautiful Kaleidescape interface that shows Now Playing info and cover art on the remote.
    • Fixed an issue with Kaleidescape Strato V players getting stuck.
    • New feature in Devices/Settings: now showing stored IP address for IP controlled devices.
    • Improved SSDP discovery. It’s faster and now shows results even from vendors that promote their device not 100% according to the standard.
    • Fixed a rare issue where Apple TV IP driver could get slow and impact the entire system.
    • Added more apps to Apple TV for direct app launch.
    • New PJLINK driver listings for AWOL projectors.
    • New “PJLINK Generic IP Driver” for broad compatibility with various brands.
    • Auto-generate flow when importing Lutron scenes.
    • New UI to import Lutron scenes.
    • New Lutron shade icons.
    • Webhooks now features both basic authentication & digest authentication.
    • New “Reboot Brain” menu option allows restart of a Nano Brain without removing power.
    • New “Send Logs” feature (for sending device logs when requested by AVA Support).
    • New workflow for setting up a Main Brain project without deleting the local project, or for connecting a Nano Brain to a new Wi-Fi SSID.
    • Fixed a rare issue that caused a Flow’s Power OFF to fail with certain projector / source combinations to fail. (Thanks, @Eric Bauer, for having found that issue!)
    • Fixed an issue with IP changes for NAD, Marantz, Denon, Samsung TV IP.
    • Fixed an issue with Nano Brain state sometimes shown as “ready” by mistake in list.
    • Extended ToughLink to Anthem MDX & AVR drivers.
    • Home Remote bug: fixed odd double-vision blurring of touch screen interface.
    • Minor UI improvement for better display of context menu items.

How to Get the New AVA OS Version

AVA OS updates are non-disruptive and happen automatically.

    • AVA Nano Brain - You will see an Update Available badge on any remote connected to the Nano Brain.

    Ladies & Gentlemen!

The next big AVA OS release is here. It’s packed with features including the fastest and richest Apple TV IP driver ever.

As always, the features in “Blaze” were driven by your requests. We focus on what’s impactful for your business. And, AVA’s developers have already started working on the next set of drivers and features. Use the Idea Voting page to help us prioritize what comes next.

Here is the 1.56.0 “Blaze” release for you! 🚀

    Highlights

The biggest features in AVA OS Blaze are:

    • Apple TV IP driver - Speed like no other, launch TV apps directly from a Flow, all you features you can imagine. (🎬 How-to video.)
    • Lutron IP driver - (public beta), this supports Lutron Homeworks and RadioRA3, both for all kinds of lights, shades and scenes. Happy testing. Keep in mind - it’s a public beta for dealers only. Do not use in client systems until the official release..
    • New auto-generated UIs for lighting and shades, new slider types (as previewed at CEDIA Expo)
    • ToughLink - All IP drivers in AVA OS now use ToughLink. ToughLink is our new IP connection handling that makes IP drivers super solid, and capable of functioning well in challenging networks. For example, at some point we had to deal with a failing Unify access point in our office. It had a firmware issue causing massive mDNS outages. Even though the issue was “not AVA’s fault,” the same could happen in your projects. With traditional IP drivers, this could result in drivers failing to control devices intermittently, or altogether. This sucks for the owner, and it’s is difficult troubleshoot for you and AVA’s support team. ToughLink is designed to handle and correct such situations. Also, ToughLink handles IP address changes very gracefully. Its very very good.

Other features and important quality improvements (in random order):

    • Added new Flow icons
    • Improved image scaling
    • Several new TV App widget icons for Custom UI buttons (such as DIRECTV)
    • Ability to delete “Flows with State” and duplicated flows
    • Added Play Store Button in the AVA OS Settings under “General”
    • Improved IP driver for NAD
    • Improved LG driver (better pairing, fixed power handling)
    • Extended Kaleidescape IP driver with more commands
    • Fixed issue for AVA OS boot animation sometimes showing up
    • Added more TV Apps to Sony IP driver
    • Added manual IP address capability to Integra/Onkyo AVR drivers
    • Improved connection handling, speed and reliability of Android TV and NVIDIA Shield IP Driver
    • User Error handling when wrong paring code is entered for Android TV and NVIDIA Shield IP Driver
    • (Much) more solid handling of Brain lists (found and fixed some ugly bugs)
    • Added an advisory when un-hiding Flows that are hidden by default
    • Fixed rare-occasion “Project Offline” message showing up incorrectly
    • Improved Widget & Shortcut spacing on slides
    • Fixed RX2 Action button not opening the Josh.ai app correctly for some customers
    • Removed duplicate MAX App commands from several IP drivers
    • many more minor bug fixes

The lastest AVA OS release is here!

I’m happy to inform you that we have just released the next AVA OS Pulsar Pulse update. This one focuses mostly on “under the hood” work, but we did slip in a couple frequently requested features such as the Roku IP driver.🎉

Things are moving fast, the next big release with more user facing features is also around the corner. And of course, as always, you can help guide the AVA OS software releases. Use the Idea Voting page to help AVA prioritize what comes next.

Here is the 1.54.6 “Pulsar Pulse” release for you!

    Highlights

    • IP Driver for ROKU → A full-fledged Roku IP driver with app launching capability for over 80 TV apps. ❤️
    • IP Driver for Sony TV Simple IP → This is in addition to the existing Sony Bravia IP driver. The Simple protocol features control for some TV models the normal Bravia driver does not cover. Also, this one requires no Pre-Shared key, so you can use it when another control system uses the PSK method at the same time.
    • Updated IP Driver for Samsung TVs → System now gets MAC address for WakeOnLan always automatically, Additional discovery method added so more models can be found automatically.
    • Updated IP Drivers with manual IP option → On all major brand IP drivers we added the option to manually enter a static IP address, this makes it possible to add devices even in network that don’t allow the automatic discovery.
    • Updated IP Drivers with mechanism for better readiness → In some scenarios, IP drivers were not immediately ready or misbehaved after reboots etc. We implemented a general fix to eliminate these effects for all IP drivers.
    • IP Driver enhancements → We added more TV app commands and rich buttons and other small enhancements to devices drivers such as Sony, Samsung all drivers incl. the Frame, Denon, Marantz, Anthem, Trinnov, Kaleidescape, NVIDIA and more.
    • Added more Discovery mechanisms → We now feature mDNS, UPNP, SSDP and some vendor specific discovery protocols. This leads to a really solid experience when adding devices and re-discover them later on etc.
    • “AVA is starting” bug fixed → After a restart, by mistake, a home swipe gesture could trigger “AVA is starting” to be displayed for a moment unnecessarily. This was a bug and is fixed.
    • Lots of minor bug fixes → Things such as: Newly created Room not immediately listed in Flows, device info updated faster after IP change, Removed duplicate “Check for Update” menu entries for devices, faster brain list loading, fixed Satellite Brain sometimes not getting an account info automatically and much more.
    • Improvements to TV favorites → Favorite TV station icons are now cached, which is especially useful when showing a demo remote to a customer. Demos can now be done completely offline (no cloud loading needed). Better handling for custom names and displaying the proper default icon.
    • Better restart behavior → Improved the handling when Cinema Remote restarts while the Nano Brain is offline or is restarted at the same time.
    • Change Project function → Now visible to all customers. Added option to switch between Local project and External project. Very handy when in your showroom or testing lab.
    • Lots of small stability improvements, bug fixes, and UI refinements.

    • IP Driver for Marantz AVRs → Full IP support, works much like the Denon driver in the first AVA OS update.
    • IP Driver for Trinnov Cinema Processors → Full IP support for all Altitude processors.
    • IP Driver for NVIDIA Shield → Including power and App launching.
    • IP Driver for Kaleidescape → Including auto-discovery & multi-player support.
    • Sonos App Dynamic Keypad Volume → Now available for the Sonos app. (You need to activate “Home Screen Volume Control” in Sonos settings.)
    • Graceful handling for Nano Brain IP Address changes → while DHCP reservations are always a best practice for pro installers, you sometimes need to switch between WiFi and Ethernet during setup. When IP addresses for a Nano Brain changes, AVA OS now handles it smoothly.
    • TV Apps as custom UI elements → You can now create slides with only the TV apps and services show that your customer cares about. (Hint: Hide the Apps Slide. Show the Custom UI Slide. Add the TV apps your customer needs.)
    • Dynamic Keypad is now even More Dynamic → The Dynamic Keypad’s buttons change on all devices when you switch between Slides on the touchscreen. Example: Switch between the TV Number Pad slide and the Transport slides and the channel buttons change to transport controls.
    • Change Project function → You can now easily jump into a different project with your remote without having to reset AVA OS on the remote. Very handy when in your showroom or testing lab.
    • Fixed a nasty issue when adding devices to satellite brains (Only a hand full of customers were affected but for those who were, it sucked.)
    • Lots of small stability improvements, bug fixes, and UI refinements.

    Hey Pros!

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. — F. Bueller

Things are really moving now! AVA OS, the Cinema Remote, the Nano Brain, and the rest of the cast started shipping a couple months ago and AVA has already dropped two big updates full of features. So many IP drivers: Samsung TVs, Anthem, Marantz, Trinnov, Nvidia Shield, Kaleidescape, and more. And lots of other features. But what’s coming up?! Well, in this quick edition of AVA Pro News, I’m dropping you a big hint about where you can find out at least some of what our developers are working on. One of the links might reveal status on things like…maybe…IP control for LG TVs or Roku IP driver? You’ll have to click through to find out.

    Cheers!

    AVA OS Updates: Continuing Excellence

With only a few months since AVA OS first shipped, there have already been two big updates. Each update brings performance enhancements, new features, more drivers, and of course, fast fixes to reported issues. If you missed the release notes, check them out here:

    1.54.1 “Pulsar Pulse”
    1.53.2 “Vega Stream”

    Feature Requests…Delivered (Go Vote!)

IP control for Marantz AVRs, Samung TVs, Trinnov pre-amps, and several other features added since AVA OS was first released…they all came about from ideas submitted by AVA dealers. You can request features and vote on others’ ideas.

Check out the Idea Voting page.

Cinema Remote and the Dynamic Keypad

Among the many innovations you can find in using AVA Cinema Remote, the one that stands out most is the Dynamic Keypad. Cinema Remote goes a completely different direction from all previous “universal” remotes by introducing the Dynamic Keypad as a better way than the traditional button cluster.

When you show the Dynamic Keypad to your clients, here are the things to highlight:

    1. 3D Glass - the 3-dimensional glass surface guide your thumb right to a home position so you don’t need to look down.
    2. Perfect click - With each press you will feel the quality of engineering we put into it.
    3. Dynamic - Dynamic Keypad changes its button labels and functions according to the current media source, and even in coordination with the touch screen use interface. Demonstrate how switching the touchscreen from a channels interface to a TV apps interface smartly changes the Dynamic Keypad’s channel buttons to skip forward and back buttons.

See Dynamic Keypad on my latest Smash Tech >>

AVA gets you focused training videos that get straight to the point! ‘Nuff said.

    Customizing User Interfaces

Sure, the Dynamic Keypad on the Cinema Remote is what gets the most use while watching TV, but did you know you can customize user interfaces on the touch screen? Check out these two short videos to learn how.

AVA OS Means Way Less Need for Android Apps

If you learned AVA back in the days before AVA OS, come on an un-learning journey with me. With AVA OS, you rarely need use Android apps. Find out the when and how in these two videos.

What kind of clientele do you serve most? What are your favorite use cases that make your company’s sweet spot? What does your company “do best”?
Our company's clientele ranges from the ultra luxury residence to the average person who likes tech to enhance there living experience.

Tell us about the client use case for which you use AVA Remote most often.
The best part of using the AVA remote is the build quality and the learning curve is small as most people feel comfortable with using native apps.

How many AVA Remotes do you use in a typical project, and why?
We are in Canada and haven't sold one yet but I would push for 1 to 4 in the residents depending on the level of integration.

Is there something about the AVA Remote that surprised you or was unexpectedly helpful to your business that you would advise other pros to consider?
I see potential of using the remote in a high end rental unit. Instead of using a tablet that would be tempted to go missing the AVA remote would be less desirable to grow legs and walk away.

Tell us a favorite thing about AVA Remote for your clients.
Our favorite thing about the AVA remote is how intuitive it is and the design of it screams high-end.

To get your dealership possibly featured by AVA, reply to the questionnaire here.

We asked Jeremy from World of Sound and Vision a few questions about his dealership and how he's using the AVA Remote in his clients home! Check it out!

    1. What kind of clientele do you serve most? What are your favorite use cases that make your company’s sweet spot? What does your company “do best”?
World of Sound and Vision supports a largely affluent client base in the San Francisco Bay Area, including many retirees. WOSV has a focus on implementing easy-to-use systems, providing simple solutions to common household problems. By choosing systems that integrate perfectly with Josh AI voice assistant, we provide a seamless and easy-to-control home that you can operate without traditional remote controls (but, of course, we provide those, too!) using the power of your own voice and Josh's sophisticated Natural Language Processing.
    2. Tell us about the client use case for which you use AVA Remote most often.
In some homes, customers prefer the convenience of mobility to the tried and true method of installing touchscreens in walls. In those circumstances answering the front doorbell via your phone app is great...until you forget where you left your phone! The rechargeable battery is a positive, because our customers will often misplace their phones or not have batteries around for quick replacement in handheld remotes.
    3. How many AVA Remotes do you use in a typical project, and why?
Typically 1-3 AVA remotes. We've found that customers love the convenience of having a local touchscreen ready to operate systems or open gates. We often specify AVA remotes for outdoor audio environments, as well as for outdoor TV control.
    4. Is there something about the AVA Remote that surprised you or was unexpectedly helpful to your business that you would advise other pros to consider?
The ability to natively host spotify and send spotify connect audio to remote NAX speakers has been a very cool thing. Previously our users had to operate their phones and if they received a call or had to use the phone for another purpose the audio would cut out; with an integrated AVA remote this problem is solved nicely!
    5. Tell us a favorite thing about AVA Remote for your clients.
The AVA remotes have rock solid wi-fi stability, setup time is very quick (even with kiosk mode), but the simple fact that it's a drop in remote replacement that has full touchscreen capabilities is the sweet spot. The ergonomics are also incredible, and the remote feels perfect in our hands.
